Hand pounding Ponni is one of the healthiest Native variants as it is pounded in mortar, pestle and stone grinder. This is called kaikuthal arisi (in tamil).
Since selenium is present in handpounded rice, it reduces the likelihood of developing colon cancer. There is a high amount of fiber this rice.
Nutrients in rice help protect against breast disease and heart disease. It also reduces the risk of plaque buildup in the blood vessels.
